Neon Covers

The "Neon Covers" are so named because of the very bright colors that dominate their design. Underneath the large splotch of bright neon is usually a collage of photos that will have something to do with the plot of the book.

Re-Issues
In 2008, Penguin began re-issuing the older titles in "Neon Covers." These covers generally feature a black background with the text in a neon color.
Bright red type. The collage in this case is done in a rainbow of neon colors and includes a photo of the U.S. Capitol building, a gun with an evidence tag attached, writing that says "1 of 6" and a person. (Man? Woman? Hard to tell who the person might represent)

Bright yellow type. The collage includes a photo of a woman running with a purple umbrella, "District Attorney of New York," gambling chips, and a fingerprint (possibly left thumbprint).

Bright blue type. The collage includes a bottle on its side (possibly drugs), a woman's face, left side facing the viewer, a walking cane, and "Forensic Division."

Light peach type. The collage includes a close-up of a sound board/mixing console, two blurred figures with 'WASHINGTON' above, images of a brain CT scan, and ..... ?

Light green type. The collage includes a New York police badge with a mourning stripe, possibly apartment windows, a pentagram necklace, and a black cat.

Burnt orange type. The collage includes "An Eye For an Eye," an eye, handcuffs/restraints, possibly a cathedral door, and votive candles.

Bright green type. The collage includes nail polish on top of a present with a bow, a tall building with a Christmas tree in front (Rockefeller Center), and a red ornament. (There is type also included - 'occur' - but I cannot tell what it is.)

Deep purple type. The collage includes blades, a shadowed silhouette of a person, a caduceus, and a subway sign for 'Canal Street Station'.

Yellowish type. The collage includes firefighters and fire, possibly a stopwatch, the face of the Statue of Liberty, and a countdown-timer with hours, minutes, and seconds reading '000 00 00'.

Hot pink type. The collage includes stage curtains, possibly the top of a chandelier, "I know what you did," a knife, a police barricade, and blurred city lights.

Greenish type. The collage includes blurred colors, a police sign, possibly the lights of a bridge at night, and a stack of coins.
|
Dark bronze type. The collage includes a man in a suit, a police patch, a pearl necklace, an ornate chandelier, and the blurred image of a woman behind frosted glass.

Gray type. The collage includes a stone lion (possibly New York Public Library), 0010010001 (binary/Gray code), flower petals, and what appears to be champagne in a bucket with pink coloring.

Bright orange type. The collage includes a wine glass, yellowish-orange flowers, a woman behind bars wearing manacles and chain from wrist to wrist, and neon lights (which may read "Sex Show" "Hot")

Steel blue type. The collage includes someone wearing a tee-shirt with 'NYPSD' on the back, a baseball bat, a computer circuit board, a doll's face, and 'Absolute Purity Achieved'.

Bright purple type. The collage includes picture frames, a head shot image of a woman with her right eye framed and blurred, a photographer's studio light, and a man in sunglasses framing a shot with his hands.

Pinkish-salmon type. The collage includes what might be oranges in a basket, 'Eve Dallas NYPSD' printed on what may be an invitation?, the UN emblem, the back of a man's head in a top hat, and (possibly) desert mesas.

Columbia blue type. The collage includes a teddy bear, the figure of a person, shadows of palm trees against an orange sky, and a gold heart-shaped locket.

Hot pink type. The collage includes a barbell, a pincushion with pins, a red ribbon, sunglasses, and someone walking a dog on a brick street/walkway.
