You didn't break a rule. Donna informed you that it had been 24 hours and according to the rules, you needed to add to the quote or give a hint (this is designed to keep the game moving). You did as asked, but said that you hated to do so, as it would (in your opinion) give it away. She was just telling you that it was a rule to add to the quote, regardless of if it gives it away. I hope that clears it up.
