This is from a single.

Character 1 - "Never can wait for his pie. Go on and settle in, then, I'll bring it in shortly."

Character 2 - Questions were tripping over her tongue, but her mother had drummed manners into her. "I'll help you clear ___ _______."

Character 1 - "Oh, there's no need."

Character 2 - "Please, I'd like to help."

Character 1 - ____ shot _____ an arched look as everyone got to their feet. "The one you married never offered to clear a dish, to my recollection."

Sigh. My very favorite book. Three Fates. Jack and Rebecca are visiting his great-grandparents (or is it great-great, I can never remember); he was the child saved by Rebecca's ancestor on the Lusitania. They're just finishing dinner--pot roast, Jack's favorite and Steven claims he married Mary for her pot roast.

Character 1 is Mary, the g' grandmother, Character 2 is Rebecca. And the one never touched a dish is Jack's ex-wife.

Dammit I knew that I just couldn't remember any of the details like the book, characters names and details of the conversation :lollol:

I love the book but I always remember this scene cause we talk about my sister-in-law the same way--that she never cleared a dish when she first started coming to dinner.

I love the book too, and ditto! I read this book LONG before Nick met Katie, but it still pisses me off, to this day, that she never lifts a hand when we have a family dinner. I've even talked to Nick about it, and he has obviously talked to her, but she still just sits there while Me, Joe, Dan and Shell clear the table and even do the dishes.. I keep telling mom it's because she NEVER made Nick do dishes...or anything...because he's the youngest. Katie apparently had to do it TOO MUCH so doesn't even offer. I'm sorry, but when you see your parents (or inlaws, whatever) make dinner, don't you think you'd get up and help with the cleanup? Uh...no. They don't, and it's irritating to ALL of us. Now my parents are happy they gave them grandkids. Oy. They still need to get their asses up and help do the damned dishes. I'm just saying. ;) (and don't get me started on how they keep their OWN house. Ick. :yuck:). Anyways, I'm tired of them and their whole "thing".

I'm just pissed at Carole because I planned to use a "Three Fates" quote for my next one. Bitch. :P

Well if you hadn't said that, you could have. No one caught on--or at least no one mentioned--that I recently used a quote from the same book I won on.
