I saw a piece on Cole Porter today and heard a snippet of Night and Day. Its short on words but the music is so beautiful. I've heard versions by Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. I like EF's version better.

katie :)

Night and Day

Like the beat beat beat of the tom-tom
When the jungle shadows fall
Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock
As it stands against the wall
Like the drip drip drip of the raindrops
When the summer shower is through
So a voice within me keeps repeating you, you, you
Night and day, you are the one
Only you beneath the moon AND under the sun
Whether near to me, or far
It's no matter darling where you are
I think of you
NIGHT AND DAY, DAY AND NIGHT, why is it so
That this longing for you follows wherever I go
In the roaring traffic's boom
In the silence of my lonely room
I think of you
NIGHT AND DAY, NIGHT AND DAY
Under the hide of me
There's an oh such a hungry yearning burning inside of me
And ITS torment won't be through
'TIL you let me spend my life making love to you
Day and night, night and day

I think that Rob Dougan's "One and the Same" is a great description of Eve and Roarke's history so far...i think that the song speaks about two people that are still trying to cope with the hardships that life can present but in that process, remembering that having each other is the salvation from fear, sadness and pain...here's a glimpse on the lyrics...if you want to hear the song visit
rob-dougan.com

Let's keep believing
that we're one and the same

Salvation
See it lights the way
Each time we see heaven
Slips away

Keep believing
We'll come undone
Keep on dreaming

We're one and the same
Two birds drift on the wind
Let's keep believing we're one and the same

Keep believing
Come what may
Immortality is living a life worth remembering--Brandon Lee

Start Living.--Rob Dougan

The methods have become unbelievably Devious. And these are the seeds which we sow the destruction of the human race.--HIVE

I am frequently a captive in my own car listening to music preferred by my 11 year old daughter or 16 year old son. While listening to their CD's, it had crossed my mind that an interesting gift from Eve to Roarke or vice versa would be a song written by Mavis to describe their feelings for each other. Kelly Clarkson's "Thankful" CD has two such songs: "Some Kind of Miracle" and "Before Your Love". I think of Eve and Roarke whenever I hear these songs.

I first discovered the In Death books abou the time the movie "DareDevil" came out and this song was all over the radio. I think the lyrics epitomize Eve & Roarke's relationship and this song reminds me of them.

Bring Me to Life by Evanescence

How can you see into my eyes like open doors
Leading you down into my core
Where I've become so numb
Without a soul
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home

(Wake me up) Wake me up inside
(I cant wake up) Wake me up inside
(Save me) Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up) Bid my blood to run
(I cant wake up) Before I come undone
(Save me) Save me from the nothing I've become

Now that I know what I'm without
You can't just leave me
Breathe into me and make me real
Bring me to life

(Wake me up) Wake me up inside
(I cant wake up) Wake me up inside
(Save me) Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up) Bid my blood to run
(I cant wake up) Before I come undone
(Save me) Save me from the nothing I've become

Bring me to life
I've been living a lie
There's nothing inside
Bring me to life

Frozen inside without your touch
Without your love, darling
Only you are the life among the dead

All of this time, I can't believe I couldnt see
Kept in the dark, but you were there in front of me

I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything

Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul
Don't let me die here
There must be something more
Bring me to life

(Wake me up) Wake me up inside
(I cant wake up) Wake me up inside
(Save me) Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up) Bid my blood to run
(I cant wake up) Before I come undone
(Save me) Save me from the nothing I've become

Bring me to life
I've been living a lie
There's nothing inside
Bring me to life

:clapping: :clapping: :clapping: I totally have to agree with you on that. The first time I heard the song (besides DareDevil), I kept thinking of them. Have that song and My Immortal on my Windows media Player. Bought the CD, copied those songs, and then sold the CD on Ebay :P

Came up with several Michael Bolton songs last night that would be perfect but can't give them right this moment. Its been a horrible day - the phones have done nothing but ring and all I want to do is get out of here and go home. However - I do want to mention that one of the songs made me think of Divided and all the other times Eve has had her nightmares and Roarke hasn't been able to do anything but hold her. Song is I'm Not Made of Steel from the album The One Thing. I'll supply words tomorrow.

I love that Etta James song, but feel it's been used too much in too many movies to the point where it's kind of cliched to me now.

I second Katie's nomination for "Night and Day," but vote for the version by U2. Not only are Bono's vocals haunting and intimate, but it has that Irish thing that fits in so nicely.

Hey, am I the only one whose fantasy job is to pick the music for movies? Because I am one of those people who hear a song and think of a scene from a movie I'd like to make or a book I'm reading. For example, when I hear U2's "Gloria," I think of Liam and Vengeance In Death. Foreigner's "Hot Blooded" reminds me of Peabody and McNab's walk to McNab's apartment in Loyalty. Blondie's "Call Me" is always a favorite with Charles ... well you get the idea (along with my ancient taste in music!)

I haven't heard U2's version. How different is it from Ella Fitzgeralds version? Surely its not like Fred Astaire's version?

It was recorded for the Cole Porter tribute/AIDS benefit album, "Red, Hot, and Blue" and they have also performed it in concert over the years. It's hyper, hyper intense, perhaps not what some people would think of for Eve and Roarke, but the reason I like it, in addition to the Irish/Bono factor, is that it captures the darker, craving aspect of Eve and Roarke's relationship while still being a profoundly straightforward love song. I haven't heard Fred Astaire's version, so I can't compare.

What's Afro Cuban swing music?

As promised: words to I'm Not Made Of Steel by Michael Bolton from The One Thing.
Under the endless sky
Beneath a million stars
Within the course of a lifetime
How very young we are

As I stumble on this journey
Along the road to what is real
I'm not made of steel
I'm not made of steel.

With all the lessons of my learning
All the strength that I possess
Still there are mountains I wish I was moving
That take much more than my best.

There are plans beyond my power
There are dreams beyond my reach.

Oh these eyes deceive the words I speak
Don't tell the story inside
So don't believe the face you see
Its only the face of my pride.

Chorus:

I'm not made of steel
I'm not made of stone
I can't be anything more than I'm made of
Move heaven and earth on my own.

I'm only a man
Flesh and blood is all I am
You think O can carry the world on my shoulders
That don't mean that I can
I can bend I can break I can feel
I'm not made of steel.

They teach you well to wear your armor
But what you've learned is just a lie
And there's a price to be paid for denying
With every tear you never cry
Don't ever show, don't let them know
The heart you never reveal
Don't ask me why don't make me hid
The pain you don't think I can feel

Chorus

I'm only a man
Flesh and blood is all I am
You think I can carry the world on my shoulders
That don't mean that I can
I can bend I can break I can feel
I'm not made of steel

Oh don't believe the face that you see
It's only the face of my pride

Chorus

I'm only a man
Flesh and blood is all I am
You think I can carry the world on my shoulders
That don't mean that I can
I'm not made of steel, I'm not made of stone.

"Until There Was You" is another good choice, so are "Night and Day" and "At Last". "At Last" is a really old song and is presently being an ear-worm because I can't remember who wrote it. Help! Like "As Time Goes By," "Blue Moon" or "Stardust" they all belong to the classic period of Roarke's beloved black-and-white films. I still think the 'our song' concept would just baffle Eve.
