The next day at central
Officer Peabody stood in Eve’s office. “Officer from now on you’re going to report to me. Whitney approved your transfer so you’ll be my permanent aide now.”
Peabody wasn’t quite sure she heard it right, “Sir?”
“Is there something wrong with your hearing officer? Should there be a record on your file that you’re deaf or something?”
“No Sir but”
“But what? Drop the sir already. Do you want a shot to be detective?”
“Yes sir! I mean yes Dallas!”
“Then shut up already before I yank out that stick up in your ass!”
“I think my ass sir is perfectly fine on its’ own but thank you really. I wouldn’t let you down Dallas.” She said cheerfully
“Well you better or else I’ll bust you down to Traffic” dismissing Peabody. Then her link beeped. “Oh shit! Dallas.” Mavis’ hair is dyed as red as cherry tomatoes and her blue eyes staring at her with suspicion.
“Well, well, how’s my best friend mom to be? How could you not tell me Dallas!? I had to hear it from Roarke.” Her eyes went from suspicious to betray.
“I know I’m sorry, I’ve been busy. How ‘bout I’ll pick you up later then we can grab pizza or something? Then I can finally meet this Leonardo that you’re so fond of.”
“Okay fine but I want to know every detail Dallas. This is so mag! I can’t believe my oldest friend is going to be a mom. The NYPSD Top Bitch Cop Lieutenant Eve Dallas is going to be a mother!” she grinned.
Relieved to see she’s back to her usual cheery self “Yeah, yeah whatever you say Mavis”
“Oh wait! I have a better idea! Why don’t you ask Roarke too so it’ll be like a double date!”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea Mavis besides I think he’ll be busy conquering the world or whatever he does.”
“I bet he can make time for his woman and his daughter if wants to. So I’ll let him know about later Dallas. See yah later!” and with that she disconnected.
“Damn it! I don’t go to a fucking double date, who does that! This is such a mess.” Eve muttered to herself. Checking to see the time, she went to her appointment with Dr. Mira.
Dr. Charlotte Mira, the best profiler of NYPSD was surprise to see Eve in her office. Although she knew that Eve had scheduled an appointment, she also knew that Eve has no open case as of right now. She was intrigued on what brings her in her office.
“What brings you to my office Eve? Though I’m glad to see you here on a professional matter, I doubt you’re here today because of that.”
“Not really or maybe both, I don’t really know why I’m here today.”
Mira can see in her eyes that a lot has been bothering her lately. “I see. Would you like some tea then? It’ll help you relax a bit.”
“Yeah sure, thanks” Eve knew that even if she didn’t answer, Mira will give her tea anyway. And she thought she can use something to relax her mind just a little bit.
“What’s really bothering you Eve? You wouldn’t come here just to visit.”
Okay, let’s start the ball rolling. Eve thought. “I’m pregnant with Roarke’s kid and I don’t know what to do about it. He wants me to move in with him so he can take care of me and the kid but I don’t want to. I know it sounds fucking stupid but I’m not sure if I’m ready for that kind of commitment. I’ve been close to only two people in my life as far as I can remember and I feel overwhelmed with whatever it is that I’m feeling for Roarke. He said he loves me but what if it’s only because I’m carrying his child. I don’t know what to think anymore and this is driving me fucking crazy.”
That took Mira by surprise, Eve was always careful with what she wants to share and this is the first time that she actually opened up about how she really feels. “Well first of all congratulations. I know having a child is a really big commitment but you have Roarke. I can see how much he loves you Eve. Don’t shut yourself from everyone else. Stop thinking that no one will love you, as a matter of fact, if you look around—you are surrounded with people that care about you. You’re detectives that you always work with, no matter what happen they always got your back not because you’re their superior but because they care about you. Love surrounds you Eve, always think about that.”
Eve just looked at the tea on her lap, waiting for Mira’s words to sink into her brain. “Being pregnant is what scares me the most” she started. “I don’t remember my mother at all, never had any maternal figure in my life to teach me what’s wrong and right. My nightmares come more often than before and last night I dreamt of my father. He wanted to take my child but I said I’ll kill him first before he could do that and then he broke my arm. Thank God Roarke was there last night to keep me grounded otherwise I could’ve been stuck in my own nightmare.”
Mira could see Eve’s control to keep her tears from falling, but knew that anytime soon she’ll break. “Pregnancy scares everyone, even myself when I got pregnant with my first child but then again you’re not alone. Let Roarke help you Eve, accept his love for you. Your pregnancy must’ve triggered your memory somehow for that to happen. As for the maternal figure--- you can have me Eve. You know I don’t just treat you as a patient but as a daughter as well. Stop punishing yourself Eve. It’s time to make yourself be happy with the people that you love and loves you back.”
Eve was touched to hear her say that she is like a daughter to her. She couldn’t help her tears from falling anymore so she let it go. “Thank you so much. For everything, you might not told me what I wanted to hear but you told me what I needed to hear the most.” Wiping her tears, she did something she rarely does to anyone. She kissed Mira’s cheeks then hugged her.
Watching Eve walked out the door, “No, thank you Eve, for finally opening up yourself to me and for allowing yourself to be one of my own” she muttered to herself.
Officer Peabody stood in Eve’s office. “Officer from now on you’re going to report to me. Whitney approved your transfer so you’ll be my permanent aide now.”
