CHAPTER 2
Roarke had kept himself busy, trying to forget eve but having a hard time in doing so. He hated the fact that she could make him weak like a little boy. If she didn’t want anything to do with him, neither does he. He felt eve's button inside his pocket and cursed. It’s been almost four months since he talked to eve. She'd been avoiding his calls even tried calling Feeney, moved out of her apartment. He didn’t wanna stoop so low, and swallow his pride to actually go to her at central. He wouldn’t give her that satisfaction, but since Feeney contacted him regarding eve he couldn’t help himself not to get excited.
His link beeped and was a bit surprised to see Feeney's name on the display
"Feeney what can I do for you?"
" Roarke listen, I know you and eve are not in good terms right now but I’m worried about her. No matter how hard she tried to pretend that everything's alright between you too, I can see she's suffering. She's not really the type to open up about anything."
Worried now, he could see concern and worry in Feeney’s eyes. “You know I tried calling her all the time but she won’t budge. She made it perfectly clear four months ago that she’s done with me.”
“Yah I know but just hear me out. A little help won’t hurt. Just stop by at central then tell her you had business with me. Come on man, I wouldn’t have contacted you if it wasn’t important. You know I care about her.”
Before Roarke could even answer Feeney already hung up, he took the button out of his pocket and started playing with it. “Darling Eve, what am I suppose to do with you?” , he muttered.
Four months ago.
“I love you Eve. I want you to move in with me. “ Roarke could see the panic and fear in her eyes as if she’d been stunned.
“I can’t afford you ace. I don’t need this complication in my life. I’m a cop for Christ sake! Listen, I think it’s better if we just stop this nonsense right now.”
“Non sense? Is this what you call this? I know you love me but you’re too damn coward to even admit it to yourself!” she wouldn’t even look at him and it hurt him as much as infuriated him to know that she can’t risk anything for both of them. “ Is this what you really want Eve?”
“You should go. Since the case is already close there is nothing to tie us together anymore”
Remembering that day still give his heart a little ache. He can’t get her out of his mind. “I think it’s time to settle everything” He went downstairs to go to central.
Eve was feeling dizzy and nauseous that she felt like going home. On her way out of her office, she saw those piercing blue eyes staring right through her. After four months, she thought she forgotten how those eyes makes her insides turn upside down but seeing him right now made her remember the pain she felt when she told him to go away.
“Roarke, I don’t believe you have business in my division.” She told him, keeping her face blank.
“I have business wherever you are Lieutenant” She kept her face blank but he could see the fatigue under her eyes and there is something else in her that he can’t pinpoint.
“I thought we made it perfectly clear that we’re done” she started walking towards her office when she fainted.
“Eve!” He caught her and carried her towards the garage. She looked so pale and she lost weight since the last time he saw her. He was so worried when she fainted that all he thought was to rush her into the nearest hospital.
In the hospital
Roarke is pacing outside Eve’s room. He called Feeney to let him know what happened to Eve when the doctor finally came out of Eve’s room.
“Are you the husband?” she asked
Without hesitation he said “yes, how is she?”
“I’m Dr. Louise Dimatto, your wife fainted due to over exhaustion. She just needs to eat properly and get some sleep other than that she’s all good. As for the baby, she’s doing perfectly fine.”
Baby? He thought, what baby is she talking about? “You mean she’s pregnant? How far along is she?”
“I’m guessing you didn’t know. She’s almost four months pregnant and yes it’s a girl. She’s due for check up three weeks from now. Let me know if she feels any pain or discomfort or anything. I’ll see you later.”
When Dr. Dimatto left, he was still shocked and baffled of the fact that Eve’s pregnant. He’s certain that the baby is his. One way to find out is to ask her directly. As soon as he opened the door, he can hear Eve yelling about why she was brought in the hospital.
“Why the hell did you bring me in here! I’m leaving now and don’t you dare try to follow me!”
“Eve we need to talk”
“There’s nothing to talk about ace other than you bringing me to the hospital over some stupid flu!”
“Did you sleep with anyone else since the last time we saw each other?” he saw the irritation in her eyes.
“Excuse me?” appalled, shocked. How dare he ask me those things! Eve thought
“You heard me, answer the damn question Eve”
“No I did not! And it’s not really your business who I sleep with so keep your nose out of my sex life.”
Roarke felt relieved somehow. He’s going to be a dad? It excited him to learn that Eve is pregnant with his daughter. Now its time to turn the tables around.
“Eve your pregnant...with my child” he told her
“Pregnant? What the fuck are you talking about? Listen, I know you hate me and all that but stop making up some bullshit just to piss me off. I have a flu okay! That’s just it, a flu!”
He saw panic followed by fear in her eyes, too much emotion going in her head, tears forming in her eyes but found control to hold it in. “Eve that’s what the doctor said, I need to take you home with me. I can’t let you be by yourself on times like this. It’s not just your responsibility but mine as well”
“I need to go Roarke, my head isn’t processing everything clearly. I need to think. This can’t be happening to me. I can’t afford to have you in my life let alone raise a kid.”
She ran out the door leaving Roarke by himself.
Before she reached the exit, she bumped into Feeney.
“Hey kid what happened to you? Roarke called me to let me know you fainted”
“Im okay Feeney. I need to go home, do you mind dropping me off home?”
“Sure kid no problem. Let’s go”
