Chapter 13Eve strode out with Carmichael to the sick looking rose bush. Obviously Harold didn’t give a dame about his environment. From her time around Roarke and Summerset she knew that in early fall you should cover those rose bushes with canvas to prevent them from freezing during the fall and winter months. Well his not caring just became their lucky break. She knelt next to bush and took out a light with a magnifying glass and took a closer look. “Carmichael, Peabody take a look at this tell me what you see.”
They both answered together “Blood and are those threads in the blood.”
“Yes, yes they are. Children we have our first break.”
With that the three left the back yard. “Peabody, grab a ride with one of the black and white. Carmichael and I are heading to the morgue.”
“Okay, Dallas do you want me to do anything?”
“Yes, I want you to do a run on Jessamine Giovanna.”
“Okay, who is Jessamine Giovanna ?”
“She delivered the postcard from Harold’s murder scene. There is no way that she is our killer but she knows who he is. She knows who he is.?”
“After you do the run I want you to go to Jessamine Giovanna’s house and do an initial interview. Don’t mention the murders say that it is about the cards. Ask if she knows what was in them. If she won’t talk bring her in and I’ll get it out of her.”
“Okay, I’ll take care of it. So how do you think Carmichael is doing?”
“He’s doing good. He’s doing very good.”
With that Dallas turned and made her way to the waiting vehicle. “Carmichael, have you ever been the morgue in regards to any case?”
“Um no sir. I’ve never been to the morgue for any reason.”
“Okay, the first thing you need to be prepared for is the smell. Mostly disinfectant sometimes something stronger but mostly it disinfectants.”
“Okay sir.”
They made their way to the morgue in silence. Once they arrived they walked down the white hallway towards Morris’s room. “Are you ready for this Carmichael?”
“I think so sir.”
“Okay lets go.

“Dallas, three in three days you must really like to visit me.” And noticing the uniform rather than Peabody asked. “Whose your companion?”
“Officer Carmichael. Chief Medical Examiner Morris. So Morris what do have.”
“Well I guess you know cause of death as broken neck. I’m currently running a tox screen. And as you probably know you could smell the alcohol on him.”
“Okay, anything else Morris?”
“Not at this time Dallas. So where is Peabody today?”
“Checking out a lead and Officer Carmichael had never been to the morgue.”
“So you are adding tour guide to your resume Dallas.”
“Yeah you never know when you may need a new job.”
“Yeah you never know. See you soon Dallas.”
“See you Morris.” With that the two turned and left the morgue.
“So how was your first trip to the morgue Carmichael?”
“Not to bad sir.”
“Good, now the next time you go in it’ll be easier.” From the morgue they headed to the lab. Once they arrived Dallas’s first thing that she did was make her way to Dick Berenski.
“Berenski can I talk to you and Harvo in your office? This is about what we talked about earlier.”
“Okay, Harvo my office now.”
“Sure boss on my way.”
They waited until they were shut in the office. “Okay guys here’s the deal the reason I only want you two and Beaver handling this case is because I’m pretty sure that my killer may work in this lab.”
“Are you freaking kidding me Dallas? Someone from my lab is a freaking killer?”
“Yes, I do. Dickey when have you ever heard of a scene having nothing not once but twice.”
“Never, really never.”
“So your worried that this mythical killer could tamper with the evidence.”
“Yes, I do. The main thing that he made a mistake this time. We have both blood and fibers so you can see why I need people that I can trust.”
“Dallas thank you for trusting me and Harvo.”
“No problem, can you let me know if any of the people in the lab show an interest in what we found from today’s scene.”
“Will do. Will do.”
