Chapter 8After Dallas and Peabody finished at the morgue they made their way over to the lab not really expecting to find anything.
“Dickhead any chance that there was anything from my scene.”
“Sorry, Dallas nothing. Your guy knows how to cover his tracks.”
“I hate the smart ones it makes them harder to find them.”
“Don’t worry Dallas they always make a mistake.”
“I know that Dickey but how many bodies will I get before that mistake happens.”
“I don’t know but I hope its soon.”
Once they had finished at the lab they were headed back to COP CENTRAL. “Okay, earlier you wanted to know my idea about the postcard. Do you want to hear it now?”
“Sure.”
“Well when I was going through my paperwork this morning I found this new postcard. And as I was looking at it I realized that the card from yesterday was in the same place. Smack dab in the middle of the paper work.”
“You mean that it was hand carried and placed on your desk. But how would somebody gain access to your office?”
“Come on Peabody we just recently brought down an entire cop are telling me that you think that there are no criminals who work in Central.”
“A cop you think it is a cop?”
“It could be cop, it could be a tech, hell it could be a freaking janitor as far as I know. Me I’m leaning to the tech. Just from the countermeasures being used.”
“You think that its someone in the lab you really think its one of Dickey’s people?”
“Yeah I really do. I talked to Don Webster to find out what I could do since I really don’t know. He suggested that I put eyes in my office whenever I am not there. And no I am not thinking how helpful it would be in my battles with the candy thief. The person delivering the cards works the graveyard shift at CENTRAL. Webster is thinking that we may catch a glimpse of the person delivering the notes.”
“Do you think that the Commander will approve the expense of the cameras?”
“I think he should, but if he can’t justify that expense then I guess that I’ll pay for the cameras myself. In fact that maybe better there would be no chance for whoever is doing this to find a record of the cameras.”
“How would he find the records Dallas?”
“The same way that the victims by going through the records and finding a person who fit’s the criteria that he has set. More than likely he is setting keywords and running a search, The way I am figuring the word that he is using are substance abuse, death, and one year.”
“Do you want to start a run using those keywords?”
“Not yet I want to run this by Mira and the Commander first. Did you do the run on Graham?”
“No, I didn’t get the time to do it do you want me to do it now?”
“That’s okay I did. Graham drugs of choice were zoner, Zeus, and cocaine. When he was using he had fun by beating his wife, Margie, and daughter Gloria. The last was when he threw Margie across the room killing the baby that she was pregnant with. Graham was arrested for spousal abuse and sent to jail for two years out in one. And according to Morris Graham had started to use again this time he was using FYU, Zeus, and Zoner at the time of his death.”
“Are we going to notify the ex-wife?”
“No we aren’t going to be doing the notifying. Chief Darcia will Margie and Gloria Harsten live on Olympus since the divorce. That reminds me I want you to check with Louise to see if Margie and Gloria spent any time at Douches after Graham killed the baby.”
“Okay, what are you going to do while I am going to talk to Darcia about notification and then we are with the commander.”
“Dallas, what can Olympus do for New York?”
“I need for you to make a notification for me.”
“Okay, who do I need to notify?”
“Margie Harsten. I need you to notify her of her ex-husbands death.”
“How was he killed? In case she asks.”
“Broken neck.”
“Do you need me to ask her anything?”
“No I can’t think of anything. This is the second murder so far. This killer is targeting addicts who are responsible for family members death and only were in jail for a year.”
“What family member did your victim kill?”
“Their unborn child.”
“Oh. Well is that all or do you need anything else?”
“No that’s all. Oh I have a message for you from Don he says hay and that he’ll see you next month when he will be there.”
“Oh tell Don I can’t wait to see him again.”
“Will do. Talk to you later.” With that Eve hung and started to mumble to herself. “When did I became the kid that passes notes between people. Come on haven’t either of them herd of links, e-mail, or texting. It’s not like I don’t have anything better to do than pass messages. It’s not like I don’t have a couple of murders to solve.” She stopped when she heard the sound of a throat clearing. She turned to see who was there. “Officer Carmichael what do you need?”
“I just wanted to give you the report of the scene this morning.” Carmichael said. “Um, could you check it for me to make sure that I didn’t miss anything. This is the first report I have made from an actual scene most of my reports have been follow-ups.”
“I’ll let you know by the end of shift how you did. Carmichael, Peabody said that you did good at the scene I’m fairly confident that your report should reflect the same.”
“Thank you, sir I will go back to my desk now.”
"Peabody with me we need to update to the Commander about this latest murder."
