She had looked death in the eye countless of times before. This time was no different. The scene was spotless, not a speck of dust out of place. The bed was freshly made, and everything looked like it was in it’s place. The body it’s self left hardly any mess. Lieutenant Eve Dallas stood over the body, hands on her hips, a frown on her face. She had, had a slight jolt when she first arrived on the scene and Eve Dallas was hardly ever shocked. “victim’s Josh Freeman, age 25” she stated for the record. “victim has a gash on the side of his throat, probable cause of death ME to confirm.”
She looked over the scene again “victim is fully clothed, no sign of sexual assault. The scene is clean, nothing seems to be missing, ready for the sweepers”
She clicked off her recorder and stepped out of the apartment as her partner walked across the hall with a uniform.
Eve frowned “Peabody, what the hell are you doing hear!?”
“I can still work! I’m not a useless lump yet”
Eve pressed her fingers to her eyes and sighed “your seven months pregnant”
“so? I’m bored sitting at home and I cant take much more of Mcnab’s smothering”
“fine, fine, you can come with me to inform the next of kin”
“sure” she said starting to head out with Dallas. As soon as they were in the car, Peabody broke silence. “so who’s our vic?”
“Josh Freeman” said Eve shifting as Peabody keyed in the name on her PPC.
Eve watched as her partners face turned white and her eyes widened, her hand on her bulging belly. “oh man, oh Christ, now I know why he freaked out so much with T.K. Harris”
Eve nodded in agreement as she started to dive. She then looked at Peabody horrified as her partner started crying. “get a grip Peabody”
“I’m sorry” she blubbered. “it’s just I’m happy it’s not him, because if it was, I’d get really pissed off with him leaving me with the baby and-”
“stop it right now!” ordered Eve
“okay” she sniffed “okay, I’m good”
“Christ” she muttered under her breath.
Out of all the vic’s to get right now, why did he have to look like McNab.
When they reached Josh Freeman’s mothers apartment building, Eve knocked on the door. A small plump woman came to answer the door. Her light gray hair was pulled up into a pony tail and she wore blue jeans with air skids and a blue hoddie. Her light green eyes were mixed with confusion and uncertainty. “yes?” she asked.
“Lieutenant Dallas and Detective Peabody NYPSD, may we come in Mrs Freeman?” she asked while they held her badges up.
“of coarse, come in” she said letting the two of them in.
Nice home, Eve thought as she looked around. Very Feminine. Lots of flowers around, on the wall paper and cushions.
“please sit” she said.
Peabody sat first slowly and Eve sat next to her.
“when are you due?” asked Mrs Freeman.
“oh two months” said Peabody
“congratulations” she smiled.
“Mrs Newman” Eve interrupted.
“oh right sorry” she said looking back at Eve
“at 04.00 this morning, your son Josh Freeman was found dead in his apartment, we’re very sorry for your loss”
Mrs Newman’s bottom lip began to tremble, her eyes watering “are you sure?” she whispered.
“we’re sure” said Eve.
“is there anyone we can call for you Mrs Newman?” asked Peabody.
“No. Yes, m-my friend, Lily, Lily Black”
“we’ll do that for you Mrs Newman” said Eve
“thank you” she whispered trembling.
