Danny stood in the back of Eve's office as the cops interacted with each other and was amazed at how proficiently they worked together. Police work was nothing new to him. He had watched his father's team solve cases together in Boston. He thought about how Eve and his father would have got along. He wished his father could have met her. The little baby girl they had searched for, for so long. Yes he would have liked her.
As he looked around he saw Peabody and Trueheart setting up a murder board with his father's picture in the center along with the two CPS workers. Eve was sitting at her desk with Baxter and Mira discussing the case. McNab and Feeney were at a computer going over the disk for clues. Roarke and Samantha were talking when summerset came into the room and whispered something to Roarke. As Roarke and Summerset left the room through his office, Samantha, the love of his life, strolled over to Feeney and McNab and impressed them with her computer skills. A few minutes later the room went silent as Roarke walked in with Commander Whitney. Eve and Baxter stood up and met their Commander halfway.
"Sir, Baxter was just updating me on the case and Mira has a profile. We were about to begin."
She turned to Baxter and murmured, "Lets get started"
Baxter strolled to the murder board in the front of the room.
" Retired Captain Lenard Delarosa of the BPD was found in an ally between the 1800 block. His body was badly beaten and burned. Time of death was 3am. The evidence shows that He was killed at an undisclosed location and then placed in the ally. Tox reports show that there was a high amount of morphine in his system. We ran like crimes and found two other cases, one in Boston and the other in Dallas. Throughout the investigation Dr Delarosa stated his father was here on vacation and that he was following up on a lead for an old case that went cold."
Danny started to speak from the back of the room. "In 2029 Captain Delarosa headed his team to a bust that would have netted the Boston PD a half million in drugs and a million in cash, this was after investigating for over three months. What the team didnt know was that their snitches had been playing both sides. When they arrived the house was empty except for a badly beaten boy hiding in a closet with a picture of his baby sister. An Amber Alert was sent out for the little girl, but she was never found."
"Who were the snitches?" Peabody asked.
He took a deep breath and looked at his sister, knowing the past was going to hurt, and replied "Stella and Richard Troy."
Baxter spoke as he turned and put up another picture next to the Captains."This evening Trueheart and I were called to a scene that matched our first victim. Lieutenant John Harley was found in the 4400 house on King Street. The body was burned except for the finger tips, which indicates that the killer wanted us to identify the victim. Lieutenant Harley was Captain Delarosa's partner until he retired. Like with Captain Delarosa the lack of burn marks or blood indicates that the victim was killed at another location. After running like crimes through the data base there was two other unsolved cases, one for George Hensley, and the other for Jan Kelly."
He added two more photos to the murder board. " After speaking with Danny, he revealed that Mr. Hensley was his case worker when he was released from the hospital in Boston. And Jan Kelly was also a CPS worker located in Dallas,"
Realizing it was time for him to pass on his information, Trueheart stood up and in a clear voice said " Going on the medical side of the investigation there are two companies that manufacture Morphine in an IV drip solution, Starlight Medical and Allegany Pharmaceuticals. Starlight is the leading manfacturer of Morphine in an IV drip solution and we were waiting until we were able to talk to the owners of the company."
Samantha stood up and spoke. "Danny and I are the owners of Starlight detective, we will corporate fully with this investigation."
Roarke, knowing the names of the medical companies that Trueheart gave in the briefing stood up and remarked " I will get you the information by the end of the hour."
Baxter turned to Dr. Mira and asked," Have you updated your profile yet?"
Mira walked to the front of the room, but as she started to speak to all of the officers, she continued to look at Eve as she gave her report." You are dealing with two killers, though they are similar, they are different. Both have patience in exacting revenge on their victims. They will not stop until they reach their ultimate goal."Mira paused and with a hint of fear in her eyes said." With all the information we have gathered, it is my belief that Eve and Danny will be their ultimate goal."
Eve looked at Roarke as the last of Mira’s report was given. She could see his eyes go flat with rage and fear. She wondered when her father’s actions would stop haunting them, from her dreams to the present situation.
Eve watched Mira talk to the commander, she had a bad feeling that with the information revealed that they were going to tag team with Roarke and ground her to the house. It was bad enough everyone was telling her what to do, but damn it she was a cop not a dog to be told sit and stay. Gearing up to fight for the right to help her team to solve these brutal murders that somehow linked her and Danny's past, she stood up and faced the Commander.
"Commander, I know what you are going to say," Eve murmured.
"Oh really, by all means Lieutenant, please enlighten me" he replied with a face that she could not read. She better tread lightly if she wanted to stay on this case.
"Why don’t we run the case out of my house, we have better equipment then cop central and nobody can get in this house without Roarke’s knowledge" she replied.
He watched her reaction, seeing a cop through and through, he was proud of how she took hold of the situation and came up with a solution that would protect his best cop when she was not at one hundred percent, but would also allow her to continue to be part of the investigation..
"I have a couple of conditions. First, Baxter needs to stay in charge and agree to work out of the house. Second, you are not to go ANYWHERE by yourself. This includes your treatments. And last I am to be informed of everything. Do I make myself clear on this?"
Baxter strolled up at the commanders remarks "Woo hoo I’m game, Roarke has the best food ever."
Eve rolled her eyes at Baxter’s remark, giving her commander a solemn look she murmured "Yes, Sir."
