Peabody struggled against the restraints that secured her to the side of the rocky cliff. Rain pounded from above and sharp waves rose as high as her chest, slapping her in the face and making her choke on the freezing water.
She balanced on the edge of a small rock, fighting to not let the rough waves knock her back against the cliff. Her head pounded and her vision was blurry but she was determined to survive.
When a particularly powerful wave knocked her off of her perch, she couldn't stop herself from crying out as her injured knee rammed up against the sharp rocks. She screamed again as the wave pulled her below the water while she fought to keep her head up.
Trueheart took advantage when Briana turned her head at the sound of the scream. He pulled out his stunner and took her down, scrambling to retrieve her weapon and cornering Rita.
"Where is she?" he demanded as Rita lifted her hands.
"She's down there," Rita pointed behind her, "Listen, Detective Myers threatened us."
"Right," Trueheart grabbed her by the arm and opened the back seat of their car. Using the safety harness, he secured her tightly. He lifted the unconscious Briana and did the same, then ran in the direction Rita had pointed to find Peabody.
The cliff was steep, but as he climbed down, he could see where she was tied. As he reached her, he reached down to undo the restraints.
"Peabody!" he shouted, "Peabody!" He managed to undo the restraints and pulled her out of the water, "Come on Peabody, talk to me!"
He lifted her and carried her up the cliff to where the waves couldn't reach them. Laying her out on the rocks, he shook her gently, "Come on," he pleaded, "Wake up!"
And there was a huge weight lifted off his his shoulders when she coughed once, then twice and opened her eyes, "Trueheart?" she gave him a weak smile and he fought to hold back the tears of relief and happiness that formed in his eyes.
"Oh, thank god," he said and helped her sit up, "Let's get the heck out of here."
